Partner Search: Advancing the European Bio-based Innovation Enabled by Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Concepts Call
A German applied research institute (electrochemical reactor development) and a German university (bioelectrochemistry, microbial biotechnology, wastewater bioprocessing, modelling) are preparing BESyn-EU, a Horizon Europe proposal (for HORIZON-CL6-2026-01-CIRCBIO-07 call) focused on modular, digitally optimised bioelectrochemical biomanufacturing. The project integrates bioelectrochemical systems, fermentation, microbial conversion, downstream processing, online analytics, AI-supported optimisation and site-specific techno-economic assessment, building on prior national work.
A core element is site-specific techno‑economic and sustainability assessment, evaluating European scenarios based on CO2 sources, wastewater nutrients, residual carbon streams, renewable energy, infrastructure and market demand. This will identify optimal combinations of site, feedstock, process design and products.
The consortium is seeking industrial partners, SMEs, research organisations, technology providers, wastewater utilities and product end-users with expertise in:
- Fermentation and bioreactor scale-up
- Online analytics and process monitoring
- AI/ML and digital optimisation (e.g. digital twins, MPC)
- Bioelectrochemical microbiology and microbial consortia development
- Wastewater treatment and circular infrastructure
- Industrial product validation (chemicals, biosurfactants, formulations)
- Downstream processing (membranes, extraction, electrodialysis, chromatography)
